Hindu Jewish Wedding at Offley Place Hitchin
I love a good multicultural wedding, and Nimisha and Sol’s is absolutely stunning! The couple aimed to create a celebration that honored both of their traditions—Nimisha’s Hindu and Sol’s Jewish—equally.
They designed a bespoke ceremony that blended both cultures, with a Hindu priest and a rabbi co-officiating. The couple married under a beautiful rustic canopy that combined the Hindu mandap with the Jewish chuppah. The forest vibes they created with their color scheme of ivory, white, and green, complemented by candle holders, foliage, and lanterns, were simply enchanting.
One of the highlights of this wedding was a big family dance, Bollywood-style, which everyone practiced for months—even over Zoom!
Read on for all the fabulous details of this very special day, told in Nimisha’s own words:
“We met online! We both expanded our search radius—Sol was in Brighton, and I was in London—on a dating app around the same time, and we matched!
We got married at Offley Place in Hitchin. We fell in love with the venue the first time we visited. The glass ceiling, red brick walls, and the conservatory were a perfect fit for us. Both of us love natural light and the outdoors, and Offley provided just that. We were blessed with glorious sunshine on our wedding day, which made it even more magical.
We planned the wedding ourselves! It was our big day, and we wanted to be involved in every aspect, enjoying the process. Our main theme for all the wedding events was to showcase both cultures, Judaism and Hinduism, equally. We were becoming one and wanted our family and friends to feel that, too. It truly was a celebration of both traditions!
For the ceremony, we wanted to provide our guests with a homemade snack. Both our mothers love cooking, so we decided to create a small sweet box featuring one Egyptian dessert and Indian mithai, topped with a note that read, ‘From our Mums to you.’ This gesture was well received by everyone!
Having grown up dancing, I knew that Indian weddings are all about movement. We organized a big family dance for the reception, which took months of practice with everyone—in person, on Zoom, and through video rehearsals—but we made it work, and everyone had the best time! Many guests said it felt like watching a Bollywood movie come to life.
I really wanted to look like myself and not overly made up for the big day. Natasha understood my concerns and helped me achieve a natural, soft glow. My hair was beautifully styled by Bonita, who is the fastest stylist I’ve ever worked with!
We both decided to wear ivory, as is customary in Jewish weddings, but we chose traditional Indian outfits, which are typical for Hindu weddings.
Our favorite part of the entire day was undoubtedly the ceremony. We integrated both Hindu and Jewish traditions, with a Hindu priest, Vasudev Mehta, and a Jewish rabbi officiating together. It was a beautiful, fun, and emotional experience. For our seven vows, we invited our closest friends and family to write our vows and join us at the mandap/chuppah to recite them aloud.
Being a fusion wedding, we merged the mandap and chuppah into a single structure, adorned with an ivory, white, and green floral arrangement to match our outfits. We chose a bespoke paper-cut ketubah that was intricately hand-painted in various shades of blue, shipped all the way from the US.
For the ceremony, we had Shiv Gopal, who specializes in creating atmospheric events. At the end of the ceremony, many guests approached us to express how much they loved the music throughout.
For the evening, we had Rahul from Divine Musiq providing a mix of Jewish, Indian, and English songs. While we both adore Bollywood, we also enjoy old-school Hip Hop, RnB, and Garage. As is customary in Indian weddings, our entertainment for the night included a 10-minute dance act featuring both of us, our mums, their friends, our cousins, and all our friends—it was spectacular!
All our decor was managed by Sai Mandaps, who helped us achieve a rustic, forest-like atmosphere. With ivory, white, and green as the main colors, we accented the space with rustic candle holders, foliage, and lanterns throughout the venue. Additionally, Nikita created matching garland sets with baby’s breath and white roses for our ceremony.”
